OEE Tracking System

OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) expresses in a single figure how effectively a machine or line is used during its planned production time. It is calculated by multiplying availability, performance and quality rates.

We treat OEE not just as a formula but as a tracking system in which the right data is collected: we develop software that gathers machine status, output and scrap data on the shop floor, calculates OEE according to your own definitions and shows it by shift, line and product. Which stops are counted is defined together in the project.

Project scope

  • Availability: automatic recording of planned production time, downtime and waiting time
  • Performance: comparing the ideal cycle time with the actual production rate
  • Quality: tracking total output, good parts and scrap
  • Downtime codes and reason entry (operator terminal or machine signal)
  • Live and historical OEE by machine, line, shift and product
  • Downtime and loss analysis reports (planned/unplanned stops, speed and quality losses)
  • Setting and following a target value according to the company's own definition

Frequently asked questions

What is OEE?

OEE stands for Overall Equipment Effectiveness. It shows how much of the planned production time a piece of equipment actually spends producing effectively, and consists of three components: availability, performance and quality.

How is OEE calculated?

OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality. Availability is the ratio of run time to planned production time; performance is the ratio of the actual production rate to the ideal rate; quality is the ratio of good parts to total parts. Which stops count as planned is defined by the company.

How is OEE data collected?

The most reliable method is reading machine status and the production counter automatically through a PLC, sensor or IoT gateway. Where automatic data is not available, entry at an operator terminal is possible; the right method is assessed machine by machine.

What is the difference between an OEE tracking system and a production tracking system?

A production tracking system monitors the overall state of production; an OEE tracking system turns the same data into an efficiency indicator and analyses the reasons for losses. Both can use the same data infrastructure.

Do you offer a ready-made OEE package?

This page describes a project-based development service; it is not an off-the-shelf product. Scope, integrations and timeline are defined together after a needs analysis.
